Dog Friendly Hotels Durham | Pet Friendly Accommodation

Following our recent article looking at dog friendly pubs in Durham I thought I would follow it up with an article about dog friendly Hotels in Durham. This is just a list of 7 dog friendly hotels and I welcome comments from readers who may wish to add to the list or relay their experiences of any that we have included.

Whitworth Hall Hotel

Situated in the beautiful location of Whitworth Hall Country Park near Spennymoor, County Durham. A sympathetically restored Grade II Listed stately mansion, and the ancestral home of Bobby Shafto; the hotel offers 29 luxurious bedrooms, each with its own individual character and all appointed to a superior standard. Whitworth Hall also has its own historic Deer Park.

Burnhopeside Hotel

Located 6.5 miles west of Durham City, Burnhopeside Hall is a Grade II Listed building of historical interest, having been the home of William Hedley, Engineer. A working model of his ‘Puffing Billy’ railway engine is at Beamish Museum (5 miles North). This stunning country house provides a beautiful setting for a peaceful and relaxing stay, being surrounded by 18 acres of gardens and woodland.

The Victoria Inn

Situated in a quiet location within a 5 minute walk of Durham Cathedral, Durham Castle, the City Centre and a 15 minute walk from Durham Railway Station. An award-winning family run Victorian Inn with a traditional welcoming atmosphere. All the bedrooms and bathrooms have recently been fully refurbished, and there is free off-street parking.

Lumley Castle Hotel

Well situated next to the A1 and overlooking Durham County Cricket Club, Lumley Castle is only a 10 minute drive from Durham City. This 600-year-old castle dominates the County Durham landscape with its fairy-tale looks, and each of the 73 luxurious en-suite rooms have a medieval atmospheric feel. There is ample parking, a choice of relaxing bars and restaurants, lots of authentic features, and very friendly staff.

South Causey Inn

South Causey Inn is a cosy, welcoming hotel set in 100 acres of the beautiful Beamish Valley countryside, nestled between Newcastle and Durham. There is a selection of well-decorated en-suite rooms each featuring unique interiors, and the food menu was recently given a ‘Taste of Durham’ award. There is an oak floor and beamed bar area serving Real Ales and a great selection of wines, giving the hotel a traditional atmosphere.
